Once upon a time there was a vacation. During this vacation, I found out Hawaiians do actually say, “Aloha!” All the time. I couldn’t do it, it didn’t feel natural. But one day, when leaving the beach at the end of the day, I walked past a man who was playing with his daughter by a creek on the trail. As I strolled by, he said, “Howdy!” And without thinking twice, as if it was natural, I replied, “Howdy!” right back, with the strongest – and fakest – Texan accent ever spoken.
