The 2016 Pantone Color of the Year
What are the « Pantone » colours?
What we call “Pantone” is a range of colours, prepared by the company of the same name. The colour chart containing all of them is called Pantone Colour Matching System and constitutes a standard in printing. The chart comprises a total of 1,677 different tones.
Every year, the Pantone Color Institute defines a Color of the Year. For 2016, two colours were chosen: Rose Quartz (13-1520) and Serenity (15-3919). Fun fact: it is the first time that the Institute chooses two different tones instead of just one.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director at the Pantone Color Institute says: « Joined together Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace. »
Of course, this selection is mostly symbolic, portraying an atmosphere, a mood that resonates with our culture.
